David Alonso (first): “I’ve never been in this situation before” / Moto3

After his Moto3 victory in Austin, David Alonso explained why he found it difficult to stay focused and why his sixth class win is so special.

After four wins and four more podium finishes in his first year in 2023, David Alonso is considered the favorite for the 2024 Moto3 World Championship title. CFMOTO Team driver Aspar has fulfilled this role impressively so far.

Victory in Qatar and fourth place in Portimão was followed by a strong display from the 17-year-old Colombian at the Austin GP. From the pole position, Alonso came out of the field early and from then on he controlled the game at the front. He eventually crossed the finish line 5.163 seconds ahead of Daniel Holgado (GASGAS Tech3) to move within two points of the Spaniard in the World Championship standings.

“I am very happy, we had an almost perfect weekend,” rejoiced the race winner, who at the same time emphasized: “It was not easy because the tire wear was difficult to control, especially at the end of the race.”

The “Circuit of the Americas” with a length of 5.516 km demanded a lot from the CFMOTO tests: “The lap here is very long. When you see that there are still four laps to go, there is still a long way to go. For a long time I began to think about every kind of stuff. It was really hard to maintain focus in the last few laps.

“I’ve never been in this situation before,” explained Alonso, who has had to win in the fighting group in his five GP victories so far. “We finally got our first win on our own, I’ve been dreaming about it the whole time.” But despite all the excitement, he knows: “The competition is long. It’s hard to make a difference because everyone is so close. That’s why every point counts.”
