Hyundai will present four Ioniq 5 Ns at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb next June and will attempt to set new records in the SUV and crossover category.
Newly crowned with the 2024 world performance car title, the Ioniq 5 Nse is launching an assault on Pikes Peak with the aim of increasing its popularity in the US and beyond. Two production models driven by Paul Dallenbach and Ron Zaras will be chasing the record while the other two modified Ioniq 5 Ns will be driven by Dani Sordo and Robin Shute, a former Hyundai Motorsport WRC driver. All four cars will compete in the Exhibition class.
There are currently no SUV/crossovers class records for power output on the world’s most popular mountain climber and so this is a unique opportunity for Hyundai to set a benchmark there. Something easier than beating the existing record!
Minor modifications have been made to the racing-ready Ioniq 5 Ns such as a Recaro Pro Racer SPA Hans driver’s seat and a Sabelt six-point racing harness while the rear seats have been removed to compensate for the weight of the roll bar and fire suppression system that has been added. Mechanically, the two models obviously remain the same as those offered to customers.
What makes the Ioniq 5 N more powerful is the 84 kWh battery that powers two motors, one with 223 hp on the front axle and one with 378 hp on the rear axle. The Korean electric thus officially produces 601 hp, which is already a lot, but this figure can be increased over time to 641 hp and the N Grin Boost function has been started!
