Caterham Project V (2023): light electric coupe?

This Project V, which precedes the electric collaboration from Caterham, is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated innovations at this year’s Goodwood festival.

This potential rival to the future electric Alpine A110, expected by 2026, will be launched in the same period. Caterham says this concept car should be launched in late 2025 or early 2026.

Carbon and aluminum

With a lightweight carbon fiber and aluminum core, this ‘British sedan’ offers a 2+1 configuration to provide more space for rear passengers. But Caterham also says there will be a 2+2 option on production models.

1.190 kg

Of course, the word ‘featherweight’ can mean anything. Especially compared to the ‘soaps’ that Caterham usually makes, namely Sevens weighing less than 500 kg. More specifically, Caterham is aiming for a weight of 1,190 kg for this Project V, which is very small for an electric coupe that should still be suitable for everyday use. day. For sporty drivers, there will also be an electric Seven, based on a 700kg heavy/lightweight concept version.

272 pk / 55 kWh

Technically, the Project V has a 200 kW (272 hp) electric motor, which is mounted on the rear axle and therefore directly drives the rear wheels. The compact lithium-ion battery has a capacity of 55 kWh. Thanks to the low weight, Caterham aims to drive the car for a distance of 400 km. And while the performance remains at the level of sports: 0-100 km / h in “less than” 4.5 seconds and a maximum estimated speed of 230 km / h.

Thanks to the fast charging capacity of 150 kW, the battery can be charged from 20-80% in just 15 minutes.

Caterham V Award Project

One last important information provided by Caterham: the aim is to launch this electric coupe with a starting price of less than 80,000 British pounds, which corresponds to less than 94,000 euros at current exchange rates.
