Scott Redding hated himself, credit to Bonovo / Superbike World Championship

Bonovo’s move is a bug this year. While Garrett Gerloff was the BMW driver last year, this year the Texan is looking hard for the good feelings he got in the last third of the season. Things aren’t much better for new teammate Scott Redding, who moved from British team ROKiT. The 2020 world champion did not get a single-digit result at Phillip Island and in Barcelona he only came to the third meeting of the season in Assen with the usual ten World Championship points.

However, the changing situation last weekend did not help in finding a solution to the problems. After all: The Briton achieved his best finish so far at the meeting in Assen, finishing eighth in the first round.

“In general, I was happy with the race under these conditions,” emphasized Redding, who started from 15th place. It’s good in the rain. We made a little change in the Superpole and it was raining in the first few corners. But it started raining in the first three corners nine, ten, eleven, so we adjusted every lap. Sometimes it was dry, sometimes it wasn’t. At the beginning of the race I felt good, but the drier it got, the less I suffered in terms of lap times.”

The Superpole race also went well with a 10th place finish for the 31-year-old. However, in the second main race, Redding fell asleep in 13th place.

“It was a bit of a gamble with the tyres. Everyone drove more or less with the same tyre, but it was very damaged. We can see that from everyone’s times and performance. But I actually felt very good. The changes we made from yesterday to today were good,” said the Bonovo driver from the Superpole race. “Going into the second race, I was more confident. I felt ready for the race. My start was ok, but I was a bit stuck behind two guys and struggled to catch up. But then I lost the front end when braking in the last corner. That upset me a bit because I felt like I had a good pace today for another top 10 finish or maybe even more. I am angry about it. I would like to apologize to the team, they were great.”
