Munich, July 30, 2022

After 3 years as a #BMW #Motorrad #factory rider in the FIM #Superbike World Championship (World SBK), Eugene Laverty will take on a new role from 2023. By next year, the 36-year-old will be a partner in Team Management of the BMW Racing Bonovo action. He will be part of the team management led by team owner Jürgen Röder and team manager Michael Galinski and will also bring his vast experience to the team as a driver coach.

Laverty made his World SBK debut in 2011 and finished second overall in the 2013 World Championship. In 2020 he joined BMW Motorrad Motorsport as a works rider, rode the BMW Motorrad World SBK Team and secured in Magny Cours. At the beginning of the 2021 season he started for the Italian team RC Squadra Corse, later in the season he was in action for the BMW Motorrad World SBK Team. This year, the BMW Motorrad rider is competing for the BMW Racing Team of the Bonovo stage – the team he will take on a new role after the end of the 2022 season in November.

“Jürgen Röder and Michael Galinski suggested this to me, and I’m very grateful that they think I can take on this role,” says Laverty. “I wanted to finish strong and with a good result, but after the last few laps I had to change my mind a little bit because I have problems. But I really enjoy being part of this team, which is without a doubt the best team I have driven in my whole life. And contracts like this is not often found. Jürgen was looking for a new person to trust about the future of the team, but also someone with experience. It will be a completely different path in my career. It will be a very interesting new challenge for me and I will have to learn a lot from Jürgen and Michael . At the same time, I would like to thank BMW Motorrad Motorsport for the trust they have placed in me over the past three years. Thanks to my new role, we will continue to be closely connected in the future.”

“It’s great that Eugene will remain part of the BMW World SBK family in his new role at BMW Racing Team Bonovo,” says BMW Motorrad Motorsport Director Marc Bongers. “We would like to thank him very much for the dedication and professionalism he brings to our project since he became a works driver in 2020. That is very special, especially because he kept that commitment even when times were not so easy. We will all work hard in his remaining races with BMW Motorrad working with the riders to finish the season well together.«

“There will be several changes in the Bonovo action BMW Championship in 2023,” explains Jürgen Röder. »Next year, Eugene will also be assigned other responsibilities, he will stay with the team and join the ownership structure, he will work as a running coach, he will find sponsors with me and also create new structures with me in relation to sustainability, which we are striving for. We are very pleased that Eugene has accepted our offer as we believe he is fully qualified to carry out this role correctly and even if Michael and I retire due to age, he can continue to do so as required. So I’m happy that everything is going like this.”
