Hyundai Motor unveils 2 Genesis prototypes in New York

SEOUL, March 26 (Yonhap) — Hyundai Motor Co. said Tuesday it unveiled prototypes of two new Genesis vehicles in New York as the company seeks to strengthen its independent Genesis brand. Hyundai Motor unveiled the first full-size SUV of the Genesis Neolun brand and the GV60 Magma, a high-performance version of the GV60 electric SUV, at Genesis House New York.

The name “Neolun” is composed of the word “Neo”, which is derived from the Greek and means new, and the Latin word, “luna”, which means moon. The exterior of the Neolun model adopts a “reductive design” principle that is characterized by simple, clean lines that eliminate unnecessary details, Hyundai said in a statement.

The most prominent exterior features are the car’s doors without the B-pillar connecting the side panels to the roof. Compared to conventional car designs, this configuration provides more open interior space and facilitates passenger access. The front seat swivel function increases cabin space and passenger comfort.

The GV60 Magma model will be the first model in the Genesis Magma program that was officially unveiled at the Genesis showroom in New York, a Hyundai spokesperson said. The automaker aims to develop high-performance Magma models for all of the brand’s models although it will be several years before mass production.

“Genesis Magma offers an exciting opportunity to push the boundaries of performance and luxury with new interpretations of high-performance vehicles with the ultimate goal of developing unique Genesis models,” said Luc Donckerwolke, Chief Creative Officer, in a press release. .

The product will continue to reveal experimental concepts based on technological and aesthetic aspects, he noted. Hyundai plans to show the two prototypes and three other cars under the Magma program, namely the GV80 coupe, G80 Magma Special and X Grand Berlinetta model, at the New York auto show that will be held from March 29 to April 7 (during inside).
