Byd Atto 3, a high-end and fun SUV that takes you into the future – ANSA Motori Test

BYD enters the European market with the title of the largest manufacturer of electric vehicles in the world, and presents a range for all needs. ANSA Motori has extensively tested the Atto 3, a high-tech SUV from the Chinese manufacturer, which combines the best of the latest electric mobility with distinct lines and great attention to detail, especially in the interior. Best of all, it’s a design that features current styling cues and guides those behind the wheel to a new way of driving. There are also many innovations from a technological point of view. In fact, BYD’s uniqueness is that it directly manufactures and supplies a complete system of electric motors, batteries, power transmission, control units and semiconductors. It builds independently, that is, everything needed to make a car from scratch.
The result is clear to see. It is clear that it is a car designed exclusively for electricity and unique: zero air intake in the grille (which does not look, as it often happens, like a racing modification), balanced front and powerful lights that follow the steering wheel, muscular sides with two characteristics . large ribs that favor airflow, a spoiler and, at the back, a single LED light unit, which taps into the tailgate to trace the glowing signature. Dimensions according to the section: 4.45 meters long and 1.87 meters long and 1.6 meters long.

But it is in the interior that the absence of concepts is clearly visible, a blank sheet of paper on the designer’s table. And so the oversized steering wheel is countered by air vents that almost become exhaust devices. The small display with the main functions placed in front of the driver is largely compensated by the large 15.6-inch monitor (in the Model version) placed in the center of the dashboard, which can also be rotated 90 degrees with the simple touch of a button. . multimedia system, also in this case, designed for electric vehicles: compatible with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, helps in finding charging stations thanks to the HERE Map and can be configured with many applications to make it a kind of smartphone on the net of storage wheels on wheels on. the doors and center selector inspired by an airplane joystick make the interior very distinct.
The Atto 3 has an 88 kW battery that recharges from 30% to 80% in about half an hour and guarantees a declared autonomy of 420 km in the WLTP cycle, while it easily exceeds 500 in the urban cycle. All-wheel drive, acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds thanks to 310 Nm of torque and a top speed of 160 km/h with a total power of 204 HP complete the identity of this car that has also won 5 Euro Stars NCAP in terms of safety.
Behind the wheel it proves to be modern, suitable for the city but also for medium distances, it is – like all cars of the brand – oriented to a new driving concept that relies heavily on many driving assistants: from cruise control to cameras which shape the car from every angle, useful when driving and when parking.
The Atto 3 is built on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0 platform, which integrates the battery into the frame to ensure maximum structural stability and greater safety in the event of an impact. The center of gravity is very low, as in most electric ones, and the battery is made without the use of cobalt.
There are two versions, both with a boot of 555 liters, 1338 with the rear seats folded, fully equipped and in fact not interchangeable according to options, a strategy that helps keep the price down: Comfort, sold at 38,790 euros, is. it has dual charging, a sunroof, electric adjustment of the front seats, a navigation system, vegan leather upholstery and a 12.8-inch rotating central screen. The top-of-the-range version of the Innovation, the subject of our test, for two thousand euros more adds an electric rear door, an air purification system and the aforementioned 15.6-inch screen: almost to the cinema.
