Fairytale Gardens expand with an opening ceremony

Fairytale Gardens expand with an opening ceremony

In the previous editions, before the various children’s exhibitions in the various parks, there were only the opening performances, this year the organization De Sprookjestuinen van Drenthe invites all children and their parents to the grand opening ceremony. The event is free and will be held on Monday, May 28 from 10am to 2pm in the center of Ukingo in Dwingeloo.

Along with a fairy tale market and activities, a gnome garden, an opening performance at 11 am and then a mini-high tea with the princesses, a fairy tale message from Letterland announces the 5th year of the fairytale garden festival. After the opening, children can enjoy small theater performances in other areas in different parks. On May 28 and 29 (Pentecost) a fairy tale festival takes place in the gardens in Dwingeloo and Diever, on July 22 and 23 the fairy gardens in Havelte and Uffelte will be enchanted.

Theater performances

Performances of approximately half an hour can be attended in six different parks in the Dwingeloo and Diever area during both days of Pentecost. In the Arnica nursery in Eemster there is a witch on a dragon hunt, in the Bospub theater in Lhee Abe tells the narrator three different fairy tales. In the Color Your Heart Fairy Garden in Geeuwenbrug, the Mermaid Singers sing about the Chinese fairy tale Nightingale. In a private garden in Eemster, Inkipinki presents a puppet show about lost colors and in a garden on Westeinde, children’s theater Kubus presents a musical and interactive show about forest animals. At Camping Diever, Poppentheatre Pierewaai performs Buiten(b)eendje, based on the story of Het Ugly Young Duck.

A small scale

Organizer Susanne Hurenkamp of Atelier Kleur je Hart in Geeuwenbrug is proud that the festival is entering its fifth year. ‘Introducing children to theater in an accessible way, that’s what it’s all about. The idea is success, people appreciate the small scale. We don’t have a big festival website where kids can be overwhelmed with offers. Visitors can put together their own program for cultural enjoyment. Are you going to 1 exhibit or visiting all the parks? It’s all right.’

Admission to the opening party on May 28 is free, except for the high tea. For shows in the park you can book tickets at the ticket shop on the website www.sprookjestuinen.nl or – if there is still space – buy tickets at the park entrance.
