There, a 23-year-old man drove off the highway with a Mercedes station wagon and lost control of the car in the curve after the delay zone. He went off the road to the left and collided with the guard outside. As a result, the Mercedes turned sideways on a grass verge, tipped onto its side and collided head first with a tree. The driver was seriously injured and trapped inside the car. The fire brigade rescued the injured person using heavy equipment and handed him over to the rescuers. After initial emergency treatment, the woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries. A 671 towards Darmstadt had to be closed for rescue and relief work. Around 8:15 am one lane was reopened to traffic, the rest of the road including the exit remained closed until around 10:30 am. The tree had to be cut down due to extensive damage. The traffic police estimate the material damage to be more than 70,000 euros.
