Fernando Alonso: Criticism in Melbourne penalty / Formula 1

An incident occurred at the sixth corner of the Albert Park Circuit in the most recent race of Formula 1 stars: George Russell was chasing Fernando Alonso in the Aston Martin when he slowed down abnormally early in the sixth corner. Both drivers were called to the scrutineers, who accused Alonso of dangerous maneuvers and handed him a 20-second time penalty.

Kevin Magnussen and Alonso’s teammate Lance Stroll feel the same way. First he said about the penalty in the Suzuka paddock: “It was a bit harsh, and to me it didn’t look like it was just Alonso’s fault.” And the Dane explained: “If they had given Alonso a warning for that, then I wouldn’t have thought it was inappropriate.” He was surprised that the result for the Spaniard was so great.”

Lando Norris also echoed the views of Alonso and Magnussen. The Brit explained: “George had enough time to see what was going on.” And he added: “Of course it’s always harder when you’re in this situation yourself. But something like that shouldn’t have gone unpunished.”

Nico Hülkenberg’s decision was more diplomatic. The German said of the maneuver: “I think this defensive approach is very common in Formula 1, but in this high-speed corner, I think it is wrong because it puts him in a very dangerous situation created.”
