Toyota WEC driver Kamui Kobayashi on the Nordschleife / FIA WEC

The Japanese will make a guest appearance on the Nordschleife of the Nürburgring this weekend. There, Kamui Kobayashi drives a Toyota Supra Evo GT4 with his partner Kazuto Kotaka.

Currently the FIA WEC is taking a break. The second round of the 2024 season is on the agenda on April 21, which will take place in Imola. Working Toyota driver Kamui Kobayashi does nothing and spends his free time on very special trips. The 2021 Le Mans winner and 2019/20 and 2021 WEC world champion competes in the Nürburgring Endurance Series and drives a Toyota Supra Evo GT4.

Kobayashi shares the car, supplied by Toyota Gazoo Racing, with fellow Japanese Kazuto Kotaka. The aim is to get the so-called DMSB Nordschleife Permit (DPN), so that later on, I can compete on the Nordschleife in a more powerful original racing car. However, it is not yet known if Kobayashi will complete the Nordschleife race at some point, for example in GT3.

Also of interest from a WEC perspective is the appearance of Glickenhaus Racing, who are bringing the SCG004c to the start of the Nürburgring Endurance Series. Glickenhaus used to drive regularly on the Nordschleife, but switched to the FIA WEC Hypercar class. The biggest success was the podium at the 24h Le Mans 2022. Since the 2024 season, Glickenhaus has not used its supercar named 007 LMH in the WEC again. The American team has dusted off its SCG004c and is competing on the Nordschleife again.
