Lewis Hamilton’s “strengthening” transfer to Ferrari will not deliver the team titles, claims Thierry Boutsen.

Three-time F1 Grand Prix winner Thierry Boutsen he believes so Lewis Hamilton will revive his career by moving to Ferrari next season. Hamilton is leaving Mercedes after more than a decade – and six drivers’ titles – to move to Ferrari in 2025, but has struggled to match George Russell in the opening race of the season.

The former Williams Grand Prix winner spoke about Hamilton’s career. The Scuderia is currently Red Bull’s closest challenger at the top of the field and the only team since the end of 2022 to deny a Grand Prix win.

Hamilton has struggled to keep up with George Russell in recent races, sparking speculation that he has already mentally left the team he won so many titles with. In Japan, Hamilton managed to qualify better than Russell, but received pressure from his younger team-mate before asking if he would let him go. Hamilton overtook Russell to claim the top spot, with Russell finishing seventh and Hamilton ninth.

Despite Hamilton’s disappointing start to the season, Boutsen suspects the seven-time world champion is not fully committed to his current employer. “He’s probably only driving at 98 per cent we saw during the race in Japan when he asked if he would let George pass a few years ago.

“Now, when things get really bad, he goes into a bad situation and gives up and gives Russell a chance to be better than him.”
