Mate Rimac Reveals Behind-the-Scenes Photos of Bugatti’s New V16 Engine

Bugatti announced Thursday morning it plans to replace its main quad-turbo W16 engine with a new V16 hybrid powertrain. The company released a short audio clip alongside the announcement teasing what the engine will sound like, and now, thanks to Bugatti-Rimac CEO Mate Rimac, we can take a long look at some behind-the-scenes powerhouse development footage. plant

The Croatian CEO shared a few photos on Facebook Thursday afternoon that show the development of the V16 engine, including pictures of the block, crankshaft, and pistons.

While the V16 may be news to us, it has been in the works for at least 14 months, according to Rimac. The CEO claims that these photos were taken in November 2022, and that the company already had test engines running on dynos at that time.

“It was very difficult to remain silent about such an incredible development,” Rimac said on Facebook. “And there are just as many surprises waiting with the rest of the car! I’m very proud of what the team has been able to pull off and not confuse me over the years.”

Aside from the V16 hybrid powertrain, we don’t know much about Bugatti’s next supercar. It will be the brand’s first launch since Rimac and Porsche took over Bugatti in 2021, which saw Rimac take a 55 percent stake, with Porsche claiming the remaining 45 percent.

With the V16’s progress so far, we may not have to wait much longer to see what kind of car it will call home. The internal combustion engine is far from dead. Color us excited.
