while a modern copy is worth almost 5 times more than the original!

In 2021, Lamborghini is reinterpreting its Countach with a redesigned Aventador with a hybrid engine of more than 800 hp. A small version of 112 units which is now worth almost 4.6 times more than the original one. Blasphemy or stroke of genius?

In 2021, Lamborghini unveiled its Countach LPI 800-4, a modern interpretation of the original Countach based on the Lamborghini Cian. The Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4 features the popular in-house V12 engine in the mid-rear position. It offers, as in the Aventador LP 780-4 Ultimae (the latest Lambo with 100% warm V12 atmo), hp 780, and associated with a very small electric motor, powered by 48 volts, and 34 hp connected to the seven- . robot gear speed.

Combined power is 814 hp. Which explains the name LPI 800-4: “I” for hybrid (“ibrido” in Italian), 800 for approximate power and only 4 to indicate the number of driven wheels. This modern Countach was produced in only 112 units. The Italian brand has never publicly presented the selling price of the 21st century supercar, but the estimate of around 2.2 million euros per unit is not crazy.

A “modern” account is for sale

One of the Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4 will be auctioned by RM Sotheby’s on May 10 and 11 in Monaco. Its estimate is between 1.9 and 2.3 million euros. This is one of five models benefiting from Luci del Bosco exterior paint and the only one with a light Bianco Leda interior. A car bought new in Germany in 2022 has traveled only 110 km so far.

At the same auction, a Lamborghini Countach is offered, this time earlier. In this case, the 5000 model of the Quatrovalvole from 1988. It is estimated between € 400,000 and € 500,000. This is one of 610 copies produced. It is powered by a 5.2 liter V12 engine with 449 hp. The spec sheet advertises 0 to 100 km/h achieved in 4.8 seconds. In comparison, for the same exercise his modern heiress claims only 2.8 s.

Finished in Rosso Siviglia with a Nero leather interior, this Countach was delivered new to Germany in 1988 before heading to the Kingdom the following year where it has been kept to this day by the same owner. It has 40,473 kilometers on the clock.

The arrival of this “new” Countach, which is actually a re-bodied Aventador, did not please the creator of the original Countach, the late Marcello Gandini who hated the idea of making something new out of something old. However, this strategy is paying off as the new one is now worth more than 4.6 times the price of the old one. A gap that remains to be considered if we take into account this time the very first version of Countach, a model with clean lines called periscopio whose price is close to a million euros. But that still leaves a one-to-two difference with modernity. What will happen to the electric Renault 5 E-Tech?
