Final Fantasy XVI is an upcoming Action RPG developed and published by Square Enix, scheduled for June 22.
During the interview with Game announcer, producer Naoki Yoshida says the development team was inspired by Game of the ages (Game of Thrones) for game production. But fortunately, only for the best series!
Game of Thrones as inspiration for Final Fantasy XVI
Naoki Yoshida, producer of FFXVIdeclares:
“Early in the development of the game, when we were in that early period, it was right when the fourth season of Game of Thrones was announced on HBO. We have watched it grow into a television series that is loved around the world, not only by older generations but also by young people. Like we bought a Blu-Ray box set of seasons 1, 2, 3 and 4 and showed it to all the team members, basically to let the developers understand that this is what’s going on in the world.that this is the kind of fantasy that people like.”
A great inspiration, if we consider that it is one of the best shows produced by HBO (if we exclude the last two seasons) and that alone. Our End has been able to match, and achieved great success. The only pity is that the 2nd season of TLOU it will not arrive until the end of 2024, but at least we know that we will not immediately understand the second game and it will improve the narrative – you can read the details in our special article.
back to us, Yoshida says the team took great care not to make FFXVI look like a carbon copy the game of the ages. Although its inspiration is clear, after seeing the overview, it is clear that the project went in other directions. Also, throughout the game, especially combat Eikon vs. Eikonthe team drew on other sources of inspiration such as attack on titan, Neon Genesis EvangelionGodzilla Ultraman and others.
It’s not just a story, the art director speaks
It’s not just that the game of the ages inspired the story and atmosphere of the world Final Fantasy XVIbut also a lot of his visual style, according to artistic director Hiroshi Minagawawho said:
“When I joined the team and talked to Takai-san about the general outlook of the game, we decided broadly to make something that had a Game of Thrones feelthat kind of high fantasy that you see in that kind of programming and way of seeing.”
Although even today there is a debate about where Game of the ages started to falter, you’d be hard-pressed to find anyone who thinks the answer is anywhere in the first four seasons. We just have to wait for the arrival of a special storm PlayStation 5 to know more.
