Electric vehicle manufacturers continue to reduce the prices of new vehicles

The electric car manufacturer Tesla has reduced the prices of its cars in the United States. But not all models are affected.

Tesla is again reducing the prices of its cars – first only in the United States, as the news agency Reuters reports. After the company missed analysts’ expectations in the first quarter, the company is offering its Model Y, Model X and Model S cars $2,000 cheaper than before, it is said.

The base Model Y now costs $42,990, while the more powerful Model Y variants now cost $47,990 and $51,490 respectively.

The base version of the Model S now costs $72,990 and Tesla wants the more powerful variant to cost $87,990. The base version of the Model X, however, costs $77,990 and the top model costs $92,900.

Last price cut a few days ago

Just last week, Tesla cut the prices of its cars in many European countries and China. As Reuters reported, citing the car manufacturer, the price reduction was possible due to the increase in volume.

This isn’t the first time Tesla’s prices have dropped: they recently dropped nearly 17 percent for the Models 3 and Y in January.

Tesla could cause a price war

Experts expect that Tesla could trigger a price war for electric cars due to the cuts – because Tesla wants to use the cuts to increase demand in China in particular.

This is the second most important market for the brand after the USA. “Tesla is fueling a price war because Tesla can afford to make life very difficult for other automakers at a good price,” explained automotive expert Ferdinand Dudenhöffer, head of the Center for Automotive Research.

And the price war is just beginning Volkswagen, for example, has also reduced the list price of the basic version ID.3 and ID.4.
