2025 Chevrolet Equinox: five things to know

Although it remains in the shadow of other SUVs on the market, the Equinox is still the second-biggest seller of the Chevrolet brand. For the 2025 model year, a new generation is on the way (same for the Toyota RAV4 and Subaru Forester, by the way), as we found out during an intimate presentation in suburban Detroit in January.

While we wait to find out pricing and to be able to order it in the middle of the year, here are five things to know about the 2025 Chevrolet Equinox:

1. More power

The exterior design of the new Equinox is directly inspired by the 2024 Chevrolet Traverse with three rows of seats. Not only does it look squarer and stronger than its predecessor, but it has gained almost 6 cm in width. As for the other dimensions, we are talking about a few millimeters more.

The fenders, however, are more muscular and, in the RS version, can accommodate 20-inch wheels – a first for the Equinox.

2. New version of ACTIV

Speaking of versions, the Equinox comes in three flavors: LT, RS and ACTIV. The standard equipment of each of them has been improved and there is no longer an LS in the entry level, which practically confirms that the base price of the car will increase.

The Equinox ACTIV is new for 2025 and follows the lead of other Chevrolet models. This more attractive version has a unique front fascia, all-terrain tires and, optionally, a white roof with a two-tone finish. Black badging and machined 17-inch wheels complete the exterior, while the cabin features Black and Maple Sugar trim, Evotex faux leather upholstery and embroidered ACTIV logos. Ventilated front seats and heated rear seats are available.

3. Same engine and only one

The 2025 Chevrolet Equinox maintains a low hood, which is unfortunate. Its 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder still produces 175 horsepower and up to 203 lb-ft of torque. There is no more powerful or hybrid option (though that may change in the short term, with GM having mentioned adding plug-in hybrids to its vast catalog), so maximum towing capacity remains at 1,500 pounds.

Small consolation: Chevrolet has replaced the old six-speed automatic transmission with a continuously variable transmission in the front-wheel drive Equinox, which should improve the fuel efficiency that this SUV clearly excels at (official figures forthcoming), and with an automatic eight- speed in models with all-wheel drive (optional LT, standard RS and ACTIV). It also offers Classic, Snow and Off-road driving modes.

4. 22 inch screen

Inside, the 2025 Equinox has been significantly changed and that’s for the better. Once again, its layout mirrors that of several recent Chevrolets. Drivers will especially enjoy the new 11-inch digital instrument cluster and the 11.3-inch central screen, the latter 30% larger than before.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, but the basic infotainment system now integrates major Google features. In addition, a wireless phone charger is added to the menu.

5. Enhanced security

Finally, let’s just say that the Chevrolet Equinox has never been so safe. Automatic emergency braking, collision avoidance alert, front pedestrian and bicyclist braking, vehicle ahead distance indicator, lane keep assist with lane departure warning and IntelliBeam headlights are all included as standard. normal.

The Equinox can also include cruise control, automatic emergency braking in intersections and rear traffic, active steering with side obstacle detection, side bicyclist alert, driver’s seat with safety alert and seat-back reminder. back when leaving the car. .
