Ford Focus ST Edition: the circuit specialist returns

According to current plans, the work of Ford Focus will end in 2025. In Focus, another compact sports car will also disappear. The Focus ST has had to carry the sports flag for the Cologne company since the end of the five-cylinder Focus RS in 2018. Already in 2021, the ST was crowned by the ST Edition. Now maybe it’s coming back like a swansong shot.

Unmodified turbo four-cylinder

As in the first version, the Focus ST Edition once again aims for the best racing suitability without completely neglecting everyday needs. To put it bluntly, the 2.3-liter turbo four-cylinder remains unchanged. It still produces 280 hp and produces a maximum of 420 Nm. This means the Focus ST sprints to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds and has a top speed of 250 km/h.

The chassis is raised

The modification of the chassis area in particular ensures more driving dynamics. The 2-way suspension from motorsport experts KW, which was specially treated by Ford Performance and has adjustable rebound and compression damping, features dual-tube damping with stainless steel housings and powder-coated coil springs and standard the top 50 percent of spring. . In the standard configuration, the reduction is ten millimeters, but the body can be reduced by 20 millimeters more. As a guide to optimal setup, buyers of the Ford Focus ST Edition receive technical information with recommended suspension settings for various conditions and tracks, including a special setup for the Nürburgring-Nordschleife.

Weight-optimized 19-inch light alloy wheels reduce unsprung mass by ten percent. The high-performance Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires fitted as standard ensure a high level of grip.

Equipment increases

Standard equipment for the Ford Focus ST Edition also includes popular safety and comfort features. Another optional driver assistance package includes, among other things, a cruise control system with traffic sign recognition and highway lane pilot. There is also Blind Spot Assist with Cross Traffic Alert.

In terms of comfort, a premium B&O sound system with ten speakers, a subwoofer and 675 watts of output power is on board doing the old stuff. A winter package is also included as standard. In addition to the steering wheel and variable seat heating, it also includes a heated windshield.

No options, no price yet

The new Ford Focus ST is available only in a five-door hatchback version with a six-speed manual transmission. Ford also sets strict guidelines when it comes to color. The special Focus is only available in a special finish in the color Azura Blue. The wheels, the roof including the spoiler, the rear diffuser and the border of the ST logo shine in contrasting black. On the interior, Motion Blue decorative stitching on the upholstery of the Ford Performance seats, steering wheel, gear knob, knee pads on the center console and floor mats add an attractive accent.

Ford has yet to announce pricing for the Focus ST Edition. However, it should be above the current top model ST X, which is available from 43,400 euros.

Ford is bringing back the ST Edition for the Focus ST. With an improved chassis, the compact sports car should cut better figures, especially on the race track. It comes with many additional comfort and safety features for everyday use. And all fans of the small sports car should be told: The ST version could be the last sports car attraction before it is expected to be discontinued in 2025.
