When low fuel costs are an absolute priority, it is better to choose a model with a diesel engine, as long as it will not be a Ford 1.8 unit, but a 1.6 and 2.0 diesel from the French concern PSA.
A bit is very economical, but it requires special care for the quality of the oil and its frequent replacement – without this, among others. turbochargers turn out to be very unstable.
When choosing an older diesel over a gasoline engine, however, it’s always worth remembering that any maintenance costs can easily eat into what you’ve saved when refueling. Rust (especially in cars up to 2007), oil leaks and problems with the steering gear are common limitations of this model.
Recommended engines: 1.6, 2.0 TDCi
Ford Focus II – pluses
Lots of space inside, good handling, large selection of cars, good diesel engines (PSA), large offer of parts.
Ford Focus II – minuses
Gasoline engines have problems with gas, expensive maintenance of tired diesel engines, rust.
