The 60th anniversary of the Mustang means special color schemes for the Ford Mustang in 2024
Especially in the GT championship, Ford is offering a new Mustang with beautiful color schemes this year that pay tribute to the past success of the Ford Mustang.

Mark Rushbrook van Global Ford Performance: When I saw the finished version of the liveries, I was immediately struck by the rich heritage and champion spirit embodied in the Mustang. from. 1985, where the Mustang dominated the IMSA GTO class, this production represents an important moment in Mustang history.

The factory IMSA GTD PRO Mustang GT3s, racing under the Ford Multimatic Motorsports banner, will debut at the Champion Spirit Festival at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca (May 10-12).

Success from the Mustang’s glory years
1964 Tour de France Mustangs: Just five months after their debut, the Alan Mann Racing Mustangs ended Jaguar’s five-year winning streak in the touring class by finishing first and second in the Tour’s tough races de France – a 10-day race that included nearly 5,700 kilometers of circuit and hill climbing. Out of 56 starters, the two Mustangs were among 19 finishers, taking nine trophies at prestigious European circuits including Le Mans and Monza, driven by Peter Proctor and Andrew Cowan.

1965 SCCA B Production Mustang GT350: In 1964, as part of the Total Performance campaign, Ford turned to Shelby American for help tuning the Ford Mustang for the SCCA Series. The resulting GT350, with its many improvements, dominated the 1965 SCCA B Production Championship under Jerry Titus, winning three consecutive championships.

1966 Shelby American Mustang: During the inaugural season of the SCCA Trans-Am Series in 1966, Tom Yeager and Bob Johnson scored Mustang’s first Trans-Am victory in the Mid-America 300. The Mustang won four of seven races that season to claim the championship.

1970 Mustang Boss 302: In the 1970 season, Bud Moore’s team, with drivers Parnelli Jones and George Follmer, dominated the SCCA Trans-Am Series, winning six races and earning the Constructors’ and Drivers’ Championship with the Boss 302 Mustang.

1981 IMSA GTX Mustang: In 1981, Ford Motor’s racing program saw a resurgence in sports car racing with the debut of the Zakspeed No. 6 Miller turbocharged Mustang driven by Klaus Ludwig. Despite missing out on a victory by a tenth of a second in its first race, the Mustang scored big wins at Brainerd International Speedway and again at Sears Point in the GTX class, marking the launch of Ford’s new efforts in sports car racing.

1985 Roush IMSA Mustang: The Roush Mustang GTO closed the 1984 IMSA season with a win at Daytona by Willie T. Ribbs and Wally Dallenbach Jr., paving the way for 1985. That year the Mustang took nine IMSA race wins. John Jones won the Drivers’ Championship, while Lynn St. James won three times, becoming the first woman to win in the series and contributing to Ford’s Manufacturers Championship.

1987 Ford Roush Mustang

1987 Roush IMSA Mustang: At the 1987 Daytona 24 Hours, the No. 11 Roush Mustang driven by Tom Gloy, Bill Elliott, Lynn St. James and Scott Pruett took first place in the GTO class.

1997 TransAm Mustang.

1997 Mustang Cobra Trans-Am: The 1997 SCCA Trans-Am season saw an outstanding performance from the Ford Mustang. Tommy Kendall, driving a Roush All-Sport Mustang Cobra, recorded 11 consecutive victories, while Mike Borkowski won the final two races of the season. Kendall earned the Drivers’ Championship for the third year in a row.
