Cologne – In fact, the tapes at the Cologne Ford works are still on hold until August 1 due to company holidays. But there is still no peace in the factory halls.
Because the car manufacturer is preparing to produce electric cars – and therefore it is changing!
Starting next year, popular electronic models will roll off the assembly line in Cologne. For this reason, Ford is investing two billion euros.
Work is progressing well: In the past few days, workers have been digging a hole 100 meters long and three meters deep in the production hall. The battery and motor will be installed here in the future.
Ford bought 14 new robots for the paint shop. Four of them will first remove the dust from the bodies after production. They then get spray painted by the ten remaining robot arms.
“Until now, this was done with a static system and a gland,” says Ford engineer Britta Dürscheid (31). The new technology should reduce energy consumption by around 2,600 megawatt hours.
