A new variant of the Ford Mustang is coming in 2025

Ford used its 60th anniversary Mustang celebration at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Wednesday to announce a new version of the current seventh-generation car.

One teaser photo was shown but Ford was tight-lipped on additional details, apart from confirming the car will arrive in 2025.

The teaser doesn’t give much detail but it does show the car with a rear wing, suggesting it will be a performance variant.

Next year marks 60 years since Shelby American launched the original GT350, and a modern model based on the seventh-generation Mustang would be a great way to celebrate the anniversary. Ford celebrated its 50th anniversary by launching the sixth-generation GT350 and GT350R versions of the Mustang.

Ford of course has many other variants that could be revived, such as the Boss 302, Bullitt, and Mach 1. A modern Shelby GT500, or a similar car, may be ruled out since we are so early in the current Mustang’s life. cycle. Performance crossovers like the Shelby GT500 tend to reach the end of their life cycle.

Ford may also be planning a hybrid Mustang, and the hood on the car in the teaser image has a shade of green. Ford planned to introduce a hybrid option on the previous generation Mustang, but pulled the plug on the project while focusing on developing the seventh generation car. Those hybrid plans may be revived now that Ford alone this month said it expects to offer hybrid powertrains in its North American lineup by the end of the decade.

Ford on Wednesday introduced the 60th Anniversary Package for the limited edition Mustang GT to commemorate the Mustang’s 60th anniversary. Only 1,965 examples will be made, a number that represents the Mustang’s first model year.
