Ford Ranger Recall (USA): Recall repair recall

Ford Ranger Recall (USA): Recall repair recall

Ford is recalling 231,942 vehicles in the United States. In Germany, there is no known memory.

The front passenger airbag inflator may have been installed in the wrong orientation during a previously performed recall repair.

If a previously modified vehicle has a passenger airbag that was installed incorrectly and in the event of an accident that requires the passenger airbag to deploy, the airbag may not deploy as intended, increasing the risk of injury.

Explanation of reasons: Ford service manuals provide diagrams and instructions for proper installation of the airbag inflator. Technicians who installed the gas generator incorrectly told Ford that they did not check the instructions before installing it.

This model is currently affected by a recall in the USA:

  • Ford Ranger from production period May 13, 2003 to May 2, 2006 (231,942 vehicles)

Owners of affected vehicles will be notified by mail and instructed to take their vehicle to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to have their previously replaced front passenger air vent inspected for proper installation and reinstalled if necessary. There is no charge for this service. The recall can be found under case number 23V-306 in the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration NHTSA.
