More than 40,000 Ford vehicles are being recalled for possible fuel leaks – Deseret News

Ford Motor Company has issued a recall affecting nearly 43,000 SUVs.

According to The Associated Presssome of the company’s 2022 Escape SUV and 2022 and 2023 Bronco Sport SUVs are being recalled because of concerns about their fuel burners.

“Ford says inside documents submitted by US security regulators that fuel injectors may rupture, and gasoline or vapor may accumulate near ignition sources, possibly extinguishing the fire,†The Associated Press reported.

How Ford handles the issue

The recall —which affects 42,652 vehicles with 1.5 liter engines—will aim to fix cracked fuel injectors, for Blog automatically. Specifically, it will involve installing a drain pipe to “redirect any oil leaking from the engine to the ground†as well as installing a software update that adds “injector leak detection to the engine control unit.â€

The Associated Press reported that the software will monitor the “pressure drop†in the fuel injection system. If it looks at one, it will shut off the high pressure fuel pump, reduce engine power and reduce engine compartment temperature.

Oil fillers last longer

In an email sent to The Associated PressFord explained that it is not completely replacing fuel injectors because it believes that scheduled maintenance will “prevent malfunctions and protect the customer.†In addition, the updated software will notify drivers via a dashboard warning if there†is an issue allowing them to stop and schedule assistance.

A report submitted by Ford to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, or NHTSA, states that only about 1% of recalled vehicles are estimated to be defective.

“The company says in documents it has reports of five undercover fires and 14 fuel injection replacement warranties, but no reports of accidents or injuries,â according to The Associated Press.

The company says it will extend its warranty coverage for cracked fuel injectors. Details of the extension will be released in June, but owners with the problem may find an alternative.

Affected owners were notified by mail beginning April 1, according to The Associated Press

Another Ford recall

Remember the SUV, depending on The Associated Pressit extends from Ford’s 2022 recall focusing on the same issue.

The previous SUV record was the largest, involving more than half a million Bronco Sport and Escape vehicles. The current recall was conducted when Ford discovered the problem affected “more vehicles than originally thought†Consumer Reports.

USA Today it was reported last week about a separate recall affecting Ford’s 2023 and 2024 Transit vehicles. NHTSA report he claimed on the cars they said the tires “can come into contact with the front wheel arch line and the body flange,” causing damage to them. Since damaged tires can lose air pressure or tread apart, the driver can lose control of the vehicle and increase the risk of an accident.

Ford did not share a recall resolution at the time NHTSA issued its report. Interim letters were sent on March 27 highlighting the security risk, and a second notice will be submitted when a solution is found, it was reported. USA Today.
