Ford is celebrating 60 years of the Mustang with new releases, fan festivals and road trips


Synonymous with fun, freedom, performance and a touch of rebellion – the iconic Ford Mustang turns 60 this year and is celebrated by fans around the world.

Sales of the first Mustang began on April 17, 1964 at the New York World’s Fair. The car broke all contracts and set a sales record in the first year with 418,000 copies. Since then, no gas has been reduced. The Mustang has been the world’s best-selling sports car for ten years.

To celebrate six decades of continuous Mustang production, Ford is presenting a new version that will also be launched in the Netherlands. The new Nite Pony pack offers more characters with dark style elements.

Ford continues to build an electric future in Europe. The electric Mustang Mach-E will be joined on April 30 by the special Mustang Mach-E Race – Ford’s first ever rally-inspired EV. Another Mustang birthday present is the first information on the order process for the high-performance Mustang GTD.

Ford is celebrating Mustang’s anniversary with fans around the world with several “Mustang Day” events. One of these Mustang Days is the Ford Mustang Global Gallop. 60 Mustang ambassadors, journalists and content creators are taking incredible journeys simultaneously through North America, South America, Europe, South Africa, China and Australia. Road trips underline the huge popularity that the popular sports car still has around the world.

Various events are also taking place closer to home to celebrate 60 years of the Mustang. Here’s how Dutch Mustang Club a tour in which one of the first Mustangs of the new generation in Europe will participate from Ford Europe. Also during Ford Family Dayon August 18, organized by Ford Netherlands, the 60th anniversary of the Mustang will be the theme.

Even fewer have been in continuous production for 60 years,” said Jon Williams, General Manager, Ford Blue Europe. “The celebration and new additions to the Mustang lineup both deliver the freedom and fun that has been the foundation of Mustang’s success for six decades — and inspire the technology that makes Mustang soar into the future.”

An additional look met the Nite Pony Package
The new Nite Pony package – available soon to order on the Mustang GT Fastback and Convertible, with manual or automatic transmissions – gives the Mustang a dark edge. This package features alloy wheels in Black Ebony with a black roof, exterior mirror caps and darkened housings for the headlights. The Black Pony logos on the front and rear leave no doubt: this is a ‘mean’ machine.

Ready for action on asphalt or dirt roads

The Mustang Mach-E Rally can also be ordered in Europe from April 30. This model brings the freedom and fun of an electric Mustang to unpaved roads for the first time.

The Mustang Mach-E Rally also attracts a lot of attention as it offers grip on asphalt and off-road surfaces. It features two racing stripes, a special model front fascia, an eye-catching rear spoiler and high-gloss 19-inch alloy wheels, inspired by Ford’s long history in rallying.

Two electric motors provide four-wheel drive and provide 950 Nm of torque and a power of 357 kW (486 hp). The specially tuned chassis provides 20 mm more ground clearance than that of the Mustang Mach-E GT, which can be useful on unpaved roads.

Ford also confirms that the Mustang GTD, the most advanced Mustang ever, is coming to Europe. This high-performance car, designed and hand-built in collaboration with Multimatic, features high-tech equipment, active aerodynamics and a semi-active chassis. It can be registered with a license plate number, but is available in very limited numbers.

Anyone attending the 24 Hours of Le Mans on June 15 and 16 will not only be able to admire the Mustang GTD in real life, but also see the Mustang GT3 in action. European registration for the Mustang GTD is expected to be delivered this summer – more information to follow soon.

More than 10 million Mustangs have been sold since 1964, spanning seven generations. The iconic sports car has appeared thousands of times in movies, television, music videos and video games. The Mustang is also the world’s most liked car on Facebook.

The Mustang has also set legendary sports records around the world. In the first year of sales he has already achieved his first victory in the Tour de France Automobile. The Mustang would add many more victories in sports car racing, drag racing and rallying.
