Charles Leclerc: Special helmet design in Japan / Formula 1

Ten years ago, a tragic accident occurred in Japan that claimed the life of Jules Bianchi. Ferrari star Charles Leclerc credits his helmet design to the Frenchman, who he cites as his mentor.

It will soon be ten years since the last time a fatal accident occurred in Formula 1: At the 2014 Japanese GP, which took place on October 5, Jules Bianchi went off the right lane on a wet track and went down the drain. a crane vehicle, which was in the process of removing the runner Adrian Sutil, who had previously jumped from the track.

Bianchi suffered brain injuries so severe in a collision with a crane truck that he fell into a coma and never woke up. On July 17, 2015, the 25-year-old died from his injuries. The Frenchman will not be forgotten by the motoring community.

On the sidelines of the Suzuka Circuit, Red Bull Racing driver Max Verstappen explained: “I didn’t know Jules that well personally, but of course we all have friends who did. He had an amazing talent. And of course he would achieve amazing things in Formula 1.”

And Bianchi partner Pierre Gasly agreed with the champion and emphasized: “I think Jules will always be remembered – as a racing driver and as a person. He was a wonderful friend and a role model for many drivers, especially in France.”

One person who knew Bianchi well was Charles Leclerc. So the Ferrari star has come up with a very special symbol for the Japanese race in memory of a racing talent who died too early: with a special helmet design that is similar to Bianchi’s and has his starting number, seventeen, honoring the Frenchman from the south, who says this about him: “I really think about Jules a lot, because he helped me get into Formula 1. Early in 2010 he talked to my current manager Nicolas Todt so that he could help me get promoted to Formula 1.”

“He was a real pioneer for my career. We were very close, even before that, and both our families are still very close. So it’s very special for me to be here. And that’s why I’m wearing a special hat for him this weekend. He’s in my heart my son as always,” added the Monegasque.
