Fred Vasseur (Ferrari): Declaration of war against rivals / Formula 1

The fact that Formula 1 teams will be descending on the Shanghai circuit for the first time since 2019 is just one of the many challenges that must be overcome in China, warns Ferrari team boss Fred Vasseur.

Formula 1 was the last in China in 2019, then came the corona pandemic and with it a long GP break in the Middle Kingdom. It is only this year that the World Cup circus sets up its tents again on the Shanghai circuit. And that makes the job of GP stars and their teams all the more difficult, as Ferrari team boss Fred Vasseur knows.

“We haven’t been to Shanghai for a couple of years now and that will definitely make the weekend very difficult for everyone,” says the Frenchman. “We have to deal with a number of things, so we are driving on this track for the first time with the current generation of cars, but we only have one hour of free practice before we fight for the start of the race.”

“Another big question mark is the condition of the piste surface. There may be more bumps on the road since our last visit,” fears the engineer, stressing: “As with every race weekend, the preparation at home at the factory is essential big.”

The Ferrari team will also focus on improving preparations for the fastest qualifying round, Vasseur reveals. “We haven’t been strong recently,” admits the Scuderia team boss. With the goal of the fifth fight of the season, he dares to declare war: “We want to use the power of the car, achieve good results and put our opponents under pressure.”
