Formula 2 test: Crawford faster, Goethe stronger / Formula 2

After a day of testing in Formula 1, it’s now time for Formula 2 in Abu Dhabi at the Yas Marina Circuit. American Jak Crawford finished the first of three days of testing as the fastest driver.

The first day of testing in Formula 2 is over!

A day after Formula 1’s final post-season test, the Formula 2 junior series began its three days of testing.

The fastest driver on day one at the Yas Marina Circuit was Jak Crawford (DAMS Lucas Oil). With a time of 1:36.697 minutes, he moved ahead of his colleague Kush Maini. In the morning session, Victor Martins (ART Grand Prix) was ahead with 1:36.799.

The fastest person from the German speaking countries was Oliver Goethe. The German, who will step up from Formula 3 to Formula 2 next season, has already been cleared to drive his new company car. On his first day of testing in an MP Motorsport car, Goethe finished the course at seven o’clock in the morning. In the late period he finished 15th and completed a more solid program with 51 laps.

Overall, it was a quiet day of testing with a red flag in the closing stages of the morning session when Christian Mansell spun and hit the woodwork, and the second shortly after when Leonardo Fornaroli stopped.

Because his car was too light, Joshua Duerksen’s (AIX) daytime laps were canceled later.

The junior series will test for two more days in Abu Dhabi.
