After a recent appearance at the Moto2 final in Barcelona and the announcement that he would be assisting the Racing Front team as sporting director, Simone Corsi is now also working on a test.
A group of teams from the MotoGP paddock and the Moto2 World Championship have also joined the Superbike and Supersport group test which is currently taking place at the Jerez racetrack in Andalusia.
In addition to KTM Ajo rider Collin Veijer, there is also Moto2 racing from the Forward team. On the bike poles, which in the 2024 season stood out more for its green painting than its sports prowess – Simone Corsi.
Forward Racing has been playing an outsider in the World Motorcycle Championship since 2024. The team, which is the only formation not based on Kalex or Boscoscuro, ended the recent season hopelessly behind third and last place in the championship developers. In the 20th race, drivers Alex Escrig and Xavier Artrigas entered the points twice for their formation, once in a chaotic race at Motegi, when Artigas showed a good nose for the right tires.
Italian racing veteran Simone Corsi is currently causing a stir in the team. The 37-year-old, who has been racing for Giovanni Cuzari’s team in the Moto2 World Championship for several years (2014 and 2022-2022), was previously seen as a wild card at the season finale in Catalunya. Corsi drove confidently, but could not pass the last place.
A few breaths later he announced his new job, as the new sporting director at Racing Forward – supporting him again in a pilot role. In Jerez, Corsi said about his work: “I am involved in two areas. What is new for me is the role of athletic director at Forward. I have a lot of experience when it comes to all the processes in the box and I hope that I can help here. At the same time, we also want to benefit due to my routine as a driver.”
Corsi revealed: “I came to Jerez to compare three different versions of the chassis. Besides the 2024 bike, there is a new range and I am trying to make the best selection for this season. Recently there have been problems with the grip behind the machine and I hope we can make progress here. Based on the experience I’ve had so far, I believe in the project. I’m sure of the potential.”
At the same time, Corsi, who was participating in the Supersport World Championship in 2024, confirmed: “The striker so far only has an agreement with Alex Escrig for next season and I am trying to support him. The second driver is not yet known.”
Perhaps the most surprising thing would be if Corsi himself, in the absence of suitable candidates, plans to return as a racing driver in 2025.
