Lions officially unveiling new uniforms for Ford Field fans

The Detroit Lions unveiled their new uniforms tonight at Ford Field during an exclusive Uniform Reveal presented by Ford. The new uniforms have come following the success of Simba’s 2023 season and present a fusion of the modern era of the team and the legacy of the historic franchise.

“We are excited to usher in a new era of Lions football,” said Detroit Lions President & CEO, Rod Wood. “Honolulu Blue and Silver has defined the Detroit Lions for generations and I’m proud that we’ve found a way to continue to develop the look with an eye on the past and an eye on the future. The traditional look of our primary jerseys along with the bold attitude of our alternate jerseys capture the essence of Detroit and a multi-generational fan base that supports us.ā€

Lions management decided to bring back the Honolulu Blue by working with Nike to have a unique color tone reminiscent of the past. Real silver has also returned to the kit, featuring in the outline and various stripe elements, as well as in the team’s traditional trousers. In addition to the classic colors, the team is also returning black to their uniforms, with a black jersey featuring Honolulu Blue lettering with silver outlines and an all-black alternate pants option.

Inspired in part by Ford’s reimagining of the Bronco, the SUV served as a muse for the team in taking a traditional look and creating a more aggressive interpretation for the modern era. The Lions and Nike Design teamed up with their new base jersey to recreate the kits worn by the teams in the early 90’s. With roots in Detroit, the uniforms draw a connection between the team and the passionate community that the Lions represent.

“Ford and Lion have a rich, shared history rooted in Detroit’s heritage,” said Lisa Materazzo, chief global marketing officer, Ford Motor Company. “We are proud that the Ford Bronco and Mustang served as the inspiration for elements of their new uniforms and were excited to see the Lions as they represent Detroit at Ford Field and celebrate our shared love of football.”

Using a classic modern version of the Lions’ iconic ’90s look with premium Nike performance technology, the Nike Vapor Field Special Edition (FUSE) combines lightweight Nike Dri-FIT technology with precision fit to allow for the performance of state of the art in the field. Strategically placed vents and perforations help ventilate hot areas and provide extra breathability for the tape, resulting in a jersey that’s twice as breathable. The most noticeable change to the uniform is the perforation on the body of the number, which provides breathability for the players.

Other notable changes seen in the new template can be seen in the cowl-shaped mesh collar design and the horizontal seam in the shape of a ā€œVā€ on the top of the jersey, which seems to push the font further down the chest. The jersey also has vertical seams that run from the top of the jersey to the bottom for a better fit. An upgrade from the previous Nike Vapor Untouchable uniforms, the FUSE is 18 percent stronger and 23 percent lighter.

NEW UNIFORM FEATURES

BASIC (HOME AND ROAD):

Both primary uniforms feature all three standard team colors. The jerseys also feature a patch under the inside back collar that pays tribute to William Clay Ford, the team’s longtime owner who ensured the team’s future in the Motor City. Inspired by Mr. Ford, the patch mimics a custom suit label and uses the iconic WCF logo with lines above its signature lettering. Both basic jerseys can be teamed with a silver pant option that features blue and white down the leg or three plain pant options – silver, blue or white.

Home (Basic)

The home jersey features a reinterpreted Honolulu Blue with the original white number font set on silver borders and a shoulder repaint. The inside of the jersey collar reads “ONE PRIDE,” a nod to the team’s fans who pack Ford Field every home game.

The road jersey features a classic white colorway with blue numbers outlined in silver and blue and silver shoulder stripes. The inside collar of the white jersey is emblazoned with Honolulu Blue as a nod to not only the Lions’ style of play but also a tribute to the work ethic that built Detroit into America’s iconic city. The back of the collar features the word “313” and for the first time in team history, the Lions will wear “DETROIT” across their chest on the road.
