With the Mazda CX-80, the Japanese automaker is bringing to market what is likely to be a family favorite: A combination of van and SUV that offers space for up to seven people in three rows of seats.

Just under five meters, the seven-seat version has a three-seat bench in the second row and two folding seats in the third row. The latter is also kept in a six-seat version, where the second row has two individual seats.

Storage space from 258 to 1971 liters

If the seat space is fully used, the occupants still have 258 liters to fill the trunk. If you drive with just five people, that’s 687 liters. With the second row folded down, the CX-80 offers an impressive 1971 liters of storage space.

As “kicker” reports, the new Mazda model has 2.5 tons of pulling power. Using the “Trailer Hitch View” the trailer hitch is transferred to the main screen.

Driver detection takes customized settings

The CX-80 is available as a plug-in and diesel hybrid. With 241 kW/327 HP system output and 13 kWh battery, the hybrid gives you an electric range of 60 kilometers.

Inside, Mazda relies on the “Driver Personalization System” already known from the brand: The model uses a camera to identify who is currently behind the wheel. The seating position, mirrors, climate settings, head-up display and audio settings are automatically adjusted accordingly.

A mobile phone can be connected wirelessly via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, and Alexa sits in the car as a virtual passenger. “See-Through” makes it possible to make visible areas of the front that would otherwise be hidden by the body. While the center screen functions as a touchscreen when stationary, it is operated via the center console while driving.

Priced at 55,350 euros (around 53,775 francs), the plug-in hybrid can be ordered from May 7. The CX-80 will be released from autumn – the price of the diesel version is still pending.
