In my garage: The legendary Ford Mustang turns 60 this year

This week on Dans mon garage, Antoine Joubert takes a look back at the history of the famous Ford Mustang, which celebrates its 60th anniversary this year. He also shares his thoughts on the Volkswagen Jetta.

“It was in March 1964 that the car saw the light of day for the first time and since then, it has caused a lot of ink to flow,” says the author. The Mustang hit its nadir between 1974 and 1978, when it was derived from the controversial Pinto. In contrast, Ford had increased the number of performance offerings. Consider the Shelby and the Mach 1, and more recently the GTD that develops over 800 horsepower, for example.

Moreover, it is unique Muscle Car American that has never stopped being produced since its inception unlike the Camaro and Challenger. To celebrate its 60th anniversary, the blue oval maker is launching a limited edition.

A big tourist

Antoine piloted the Volkswagen Jetta, one of the only sedans in the segment to offer a manual transmission. It is also the cheapest car from the German manufacturer.

“It’s a proven car. It’s enjoying great success here in North America, but now it’s being shunned by the European market,” says the expert. On the road, the Jetta shines with its low fuel consumption and comfort.
