Two rooms, two atmospheres in Aston Martin F1 this weekend at Suzuka.

While Fernando Alonso ensured another good weekend for the team, Lance Stroll, starting at the back of the grid, failed to return to the top 10.

“It was a good weekend for me with fifth place in qualifying yesterday and sixth place in the race,” emphasizes the Spanish.

“It was some of my best driving in a while. I think we were a little bit short of our true potential here this weekend, but we’re running our races really well this season and I’m scoring good points for the team.”

“Our plan today worked well and a special thanks to the pit stops was very impressive, so we thank the whole team for that. We still need to analyze our development package, so we will look at all our data for this weekend. Japan before we go back to Shanghai.”

Alonso’s very enthusiastic statements, reflecting his own performances, are in stark contrast to those of Lance Stroll.

“It was a tough race today. Starting 16th meant we had a solid strategy and we struggled to find any open positions to move forward.”

“We also lacked the straight-line speed we needed. I made a few good passes at Turn 6, though, which made for an interesting battle. We were hoping to catch Yuki (Tsunoda) for 10th, but the soft tires didn’t. I didn’t have any grip towards the end of the race, so it was disappointing not to finish in the points.”

“We will use these lessons in China in two weeks.”
