Genesis Electrified GV70 on test: A power grabber

The Bible does not say what day God said he created the car. What is known, however, is that the luxury brand Hyundai is named after the creation story and now also builds stylish electric cars. After Sebastian Henßler, Daniel Krenzer was now able to take a closer look at the Genesis Electrified GV70. The SUV has a 360 kW (489 hp) wheel drive and has a 77.4 kWh battery on board. The following points were particularly noticeable during the test:

Three points together for Genesis GV70

Comfort: A well-equipped test car is more than portable. The interior is of high quality, the controls are clear and easy to understand, the assistants work reliably and do not make a lot of noise. The massage function built into the front seats can be powerful. The fact that she also does this on her bum took some getting used to at first, but in the end it was a good thing. There is a third climate zone in the back, which can be operated by passengers in the second row themselves. The trunk offers plenty of storage space, and the large support load of 180 kg also allows you to travel with a well-stocked bike rack. The GV70 can also tow 1.8 tonnes braked.

Charging power: Allegedly, up to 350 kW of charging power is possible with Genesis, which is a good 90 kW more than most of its 800-volt siblings from the Hyundai group. This could not be confirmed in the test when the temperature was sometimes below zero, but due to this climate, around 200 kW charging power after a short 75 kW warm-up is quite impressive. After only half an hour, the almost empty battery is recharged if you charge twice in ten minutes, you get the same power.

Driving characteristics: Thanks to its all-wheel drive, it pushes the GV70 forward powerfully despite its 2.3 tonnes. The maximum torque is 700 Newton meters and the SUV can reach a maximum speed of 235 kilometers per hour. If you want to get more out of the car from time to time, there is an increase button under the steering wheel – unlike the smaller GV60, not in “barf green”, but in a pleasant black color. . The effect is the same, and from a standstill the GV70 can run to 100 kilometers per hour in 4.2 instead of 4.8 seconds. But the SUV is best suited for gliding along the highway, which still feels incredibly stable even at a cruising speed of around 160 km/h – even when the massage seat is getting used to the worst conditions.

Three negative points of Genesis GV70

Usage: However, a cruising speed of 160 kilometers per hour is not very useful for a long time – and this is especially true for an SUV that, despite all its elegance, is very stationary in the wind. In such highway trips, the on-board computer showed a consumption of about 40 kWh without any loss of charge, while when driving close to the recommended speed it was a good 10 kWh less – all this, remember, and sometimes cold temperatures outside and 20 degrees inside. During careful driving, the consumption was around 20 kWh, but together, the consumption of the winter test decreased to a good 28 kWh. The range then melts away, but luckily the GV70 absorbs power like hell.

Second row of seats: In the two front seats it’s like walking in paradise before the apple apocalypse, but in the back it’s even tighter. Although there is still plenty of room for people under 1.80 meters at least, there are other models in this class of car where the back is also easy to tolerate. No massage either, but if you had to sit in the middle back, you probably needed one after a long ride.

Workshop network: The beginning depends on online sales. Even for a test drive, the car is delivered to the prospective buyer’s home by a “messenger of the gods”, and inspections and other workshop visits are also taken care of by the drive-thru service. This is simple and inclusive, but just driving a car and workshop about something small and asking someone “friend” is no longer necessary. And after five years you have to pay extra for this service or go to one of the rare workshops yourself. Ultimately, it’s a question of whether this style is right for you or if it’s a deterrent to buying it.

Conclusion

And the one who measured it saw that it was good. This allusion to the verses from the Book of Genesis would make things very easy for the man himself – and linguistically it would equate the tempter with God, which would be completely contrary to his humble nature. So from the beginning: Yes, the Genesis Electrified GV70 is a very good car, and thanks to its very high charging performance, it is suitable for long journeys, even if, due to use, charging stations have to be made more often than with cars with more efficient.

However, an SUV buyer should always be aware that the vehicle will have a higher fuel cost to run than an updated sedan. The all-electric Genesis G80, for example, can be moved more economically. But it does not need to hide within the E-SUV group in the near upper middle class. On the seventh day you can also leave it standing…
