Automotive designers typically look far and beyond automotive architecture for inspiration to create the look and details of each concept car while blue-sky thinking will dwindle to inform commercially viable designs connected to their physical world. Fashion, architecture, spaceships, and science fiction films have all been sources of endless inspiration. But the new open Genesis Neolun The concept of an electric car stands alone in its traditional clay distribution.
“The Neolun concept was inspired by Korean moon-shaped porcelain jars,” says Genesis Chief Creative Officer Luc Donckerwolke. “It is the epitome of timeless design and high craftsmanship.”
Known as dalhangari, Joseon period vessels made of pure white porcelain and kaolin clay have been described as an “icon of Korean identity” and have sold for millions among international collectors for their deceptive simplicity. The Korean luxury carmaker hopes to evoke a similar appreciation for the subtle, reflective beauty displayed on the Neolun concept sedan – which appears equally understated, yet refined – and the subtle smoothness contrasted by the full line detailing on the two-line headlights. and continue. on SUV brake lights.
Drawing on traditional Korean influences, Neolun’s warm and inviting interior features a modern interpretation of “ondol,” the radiant floor heating tasked with keeping traditional Korean homes warm in the winter months. Vehicle comfort is achieved through the use of heating films placed on the dashboard, door frames, floor, rear seats, and sides of the console to move passengers into warmth. Neolun floors are finished in real wood to complete the interior design effect.
Upholstered in “Royal Indigo” cashmere and naturally dyed, organic “Silk Purple” leather, the luxurious multi-colored interior evokes royalty alike with its large 24.6-inch convertible display (rear passengers also have their small screens that unfold from the ceiling of Neolun). These amenities represent the expectations of modern luxury cars today.
The Neolun Concept audio system features advanced “sound design” with well-placed tweeters, midrange speakers, woofers, and subwoofers to immerse passengers in concert hall-like sound. To further this sensory connection, once the speakers are turned on, the linear hub of the crystal sphere rotates from the crown jewel to the continuous tweeter.
The Genesis Neolun concept is first and foremost a show car, so it won’t go into production in this current state of “futuristic innovation and Korean hospitality” meant to surprise and arouse interest. But if we realize that Genesis will bring their top-of-the-line versions with a luxury finish to compete with the already available Kia EV9, we won’t be surprised if the production model will be very similar to this new moon mobile.
