George Russell (Mercedes): “It was no longer possible” / Formula 1

George Russell started the Grand Prix in China from 8th place on the grid and crossed the finish line in sixth place. The Mercedes star is sure: Nothing more was possible at the “Shanghai International Circuit”.

The start of the Chinese doctor went well for George Russell, he was able to pass the two Ferrari drivers – also because his Maranello teammates fought a duel. The Mercedes star, who started from 8th position on the grid, could not maintain his position and ended up crossing the finish line in sixth place.

“I think more was not possible today and we expected to get a few positions. Maybe the result is fair, because the sixth position corresponds to our current position in the balance of power,” the Englishman summarized after the work was done.

“We have always fought against Fernando Alonso and Oscar Piastri in the last three races. And there is still work ahead of us, because we want to make up the gap at the top, fight equally with Ferrari and Lando Norris and be close to Red Bull Racing,” Russell said clearly.

It was clear to the 26-year-old that he would not be able to leave behind the Ferrari drivers “Of course you always hope and do your best, but in the end everything goes according to the current balance of power.” he added, and concluded: “Everything All in all it was an interesting weekend. Because of the fast race format, we had two different car placements from Friday morning to the end of the weekend. Now we have a lot of data to analyze.”
