McLaren is looking for redemption

For Suzuka McLaren disappointed expectations. After a strong start to the 2023 race that saw them finish second behind Red Bull, the Woking team proved they were behind Ferrari even on the “friendly” track. It’s a small alarm bell: certainly not as loud as those heard in Mercedes, but one that still advises caution in view of Shanghai.

The China race, when Formula 1 returns for the first time after the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic, will probably see McLaren on the defensive due to a poor circuit layout. Lando himself says Norrisas always very honest in his pre-race reports.

Norris’ words

It’s been a while since we last raced in Shanghai, so I can’t wait to go back. The last race was a bit difficult, but we still managed to get more points. We took time to learn from Suzuka and prepare for the China weekend“, commented the Briton on McLaren’s roads. “It will be great to see what we can do with the Sprint weekend. Different episodes make it more interesting for everyone. Maybe this is not the cycle that suits us, but we are ready to do our best once again“.

Piastri’s words

Caution also for Plateat its premiere in China: “It’s a new song for me. Being the first Sprint weekend of the season, it will be very important to try to make the most of the first test session to familiarize yourself with the track. I tested the car in the simulator at the McLaren Technology Centre, but it’s clear that it’s different when you’re off the track. We hope to be able to collect more points for the team and have a positive weekend“.
