This GMC Sierra Thinks It’s the Buick GNX’s Wild-Haired Cousin

Somehow, the bid on this 1990 GMC Sierra Tridon SST didn’t break the original amount paid for the vehicle itself.

  • This highly modified 1990 GMC Sierra C3500 Dually has a 7.4 liter V8 engine, low mileage (61,300 miles), and is in great overall condition.
  • The most interesting feature is the Tridon SST wide body kit with hints of horror styling.
  • Despite its unique features and recent maintenance, the truck failed to reach the reserve price at auction, with bids only reaching $9,100.

34 year old pickups at auction? Yawn. But this is not your grandfather’s rusty farm truck. No, sir. This is the equivalent of a mullet: business in the front (well, maybe not business, but definitely a big 7.4-liter V8 engine), party in the back (hey, it’s a truck bed, use your imagination).

So, yes, it has an awesome engine. But that’s just the beginning of his stupidity. This thing looks like a supercharged, sun-bleached cousin of the Buick Grand National that spends its weekends tearing up mud and slingshots.

It might take you a while to peel back the layers of fiber to figure out what’s hiding under Darth Vader’s face, but it’s none other than GMC’s 1990 Sierra C3500. box and high-end style.

According to documents included with the auction, it had an original MSRP of $20,600. Obviously, the buyer was willing to pay more than half of that ($12,820) for the equipment you see here.

The front bumper gets integrated fog lights, while the grille, sun visor, flares, side skirts, bed walls, and rear spoiler are all new pieces as well. In addition, it has a special cowl hood, 16-inch aftermarket wheels, and a special exhaust system with quad tips. To put it simply, it’s one of the most unique trucks from this era on sale today.

Additionally, it has a V8 previously rated at 230 hp (171 kW) and 385 lb-ft (521 Nm) of torque. The truck also only has 61,300 miles on it and appears to be well maintained. The interior also has several upgrades. The velor upholstery is in good condition and Alpine’s 11-inch infotainment system sits nicely on the dash. The seller says that it also had a lot of recent work to prepare it for sale.

That includes new ball joints, new brakes, new shocks, control arms, and tie rods as well. The clutch fan is new as well and all the fluids have been changed. That, along with a service record, five keys, and the original window sticker and dealer papers will make this look like a surefire success.

Despite all that, bidders on Cars and Bids, where it went at the auction this week, they were willing to spend up to $9,100 on a truck. That was not enough for the seller and it failed to reach any storage. It seems even Darth Vader couldn’t force more bidding on this one.
