Formula 1: The hype about Ferrari – Scuderia changes its name | Sports

Aren’t they making fools of themselves?

Ferrari is the only team that has been racing since it was founded System 1 1950 series in the first class of motorsport. No team stands for as much tradition as the Scuderia. Tradition – which the Italians are now (partially) breaking.

The racing team announced that technology giant Hewlett-Packard is the new title sponsor. Results: Instead of “Scuderia Ferrari”, Charles Leclerc (26) & Co. they will now compete as “Scuderia Ferrari HP”. But not only the name changes, but also the red racer and driver’s suits.

While the color of the car will only be revealed at the next race, the Miami Grand Prix (May 5, 10 pm; Sky), it is already clear what the race overalls of Leclerc and Carlos Sainz (29) will be. It’s obvious at first glance: Most fashion-conscious Italians probably won’t like this.

In addition to the classic red and white and yellow colors, the blue and white HP logo appears. It can appear twice (on the stomach and on the chest) in front.

Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna (55): “Our founder passed on to us his constant desire for progress. This drives our pursuit of innovation on the road and on the racetrack. At HP we have found the same values, which make the company an ideal partner. We look forward to starting our partnership and facing new opportunities and challenges together.

One thing is clear: the impact on team performance should be positive. The partnership should be especially beneficial for Ferrari financially. How cultural values are preserved is another matter.

But the truth is also: In Formula 1 it has long been a trend for racing teams to include large international companies in their team names. Red Bull has been officially called “Oracle Red Bull Racing” since last season. Aston Martin competes as the “Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team”.

Only for Ferrari was this considered impossible for a long time. The team had already included a brand in its name (“Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro”) in the 90s, Marlboro, but since then it has leaned on tradition again – until now.
