This golf was not a success, but an excellent choice as an event

Fortunately, as a retiree you are still alive and well. You love getting out, but you want a higher entry point in your next car. Space doesn’t matter, because there are always two of you. What will be the joint event?

The type of used car is very large. You can find cheap used cars everywhere at the dealership, through Gaspedal.nl and even on Facebook. Autovisie selects the three best used cars in the segment each week.

15,000 euro event

Volkswagen Golf Sportsvan (2014 – 2019)

Not every Volkswagen is an unqualified success. The Golf Sportsvan was never popular, although there is a lot to be said for that. It is higher and longer than the regular Golf, but almost identical in behavior and driving characteristics.

This means easy operation, comfortable front seats and maximum comfort, even on long journeys. The delightfully efficient DSG automatic transmission is a nice addition to that comfort. The Sportsvan is also loaded with smart bags and such and has plenty of room, but hey, who needs that?

Low popularity ensures a better version with a fixed budget. Here we end up with a dark gray 1.2 TSI ‘Highline’ (2017, 46,000 km) for €14,995 in a car company in Ridderkerk.

What should you consider?

Technically this event is a Golf ‘7’, no specific Sportsvan defects are known. With TSI engines it happens that the engine starts working on three cylinders due to a ‘broken’ spark plug cable. It’s a small thing, but don’t go overboard!

These engines also often have slightly higher fuel consumption, so regular inspections and topping up are recommended. The turbo high pressure valve on the TSI 1.2 sometimes gets stuck, causing the engine to run normally, which is also a minor issue. The DSG automatic transmission is sometimes interrupted, which requires a ‘reset’.
