As part of the Felo Gresini Racing team presentation with Matteo Ferrari and Alessio Finello, Ducati racing boss Gigi Dall’Igna commented on the new V21L for the 2023 MotoE World Championship.

In MotoE, Gresini Racing relies on continuity: The two drivers did not change with Matteo Ferrari and Alessio Finello, the contract with the sponsor named Felo (electric motorcycle manufacturer from China) has been extended until 2025. This is one of the reasons why there were no surprises in the presentation of the team in terms of design.

However, everything is new in the 2023 electric range: Ducati bikes will be used for the first time and for the first time it is officially the World Cup.

Gresini Racing was the first MotoE team to appear in Cervia on Saturday. Ducati racing boss Gigi Dall’Igna took the opportunity to speak personally about the latest racing machine from Borgo Panigale: “It is Ducati’s first step in the field of electrification. Ducati decided to take this step Ducati style – that is, start with racing and develop the technology before building a bike for the road.”

“We are very satisfied with the feedback from our test riders over the past year,” revealed the General Manager of Ducati Corse. “We are now very curious about the feedback from all the drivers on the first test.”

Dall’Igna is sure: “We are proud of the bike because the lap times and everything looks really good at the moment.”

Ducati is still keeping a low profile, but the lap times are said to be around three seconds less than the times of the Energica from the 2022 World Cup season. The top speed of the 225 kg Ducati bike is officially 275 km / h.

Dall’Igna appears to be interested in the new MotoE project, which will see technicians from his Reparto Corse work closely with Ducati’s R&D (Research and Development) department. Important input also came from the VW Group.

“As an engineer, normally you can’t start on a blank sheet of paper, but in this case we had to do it,” the Ducati boss said. “The main numbers of the motorcycle, such as the distribution of weight, are different, the weight is different and the power output of the electric motor is of course completely different. So we had to think a lot before creating the bike. In Ducati style we also have new ideas on the bike. This is just the beginning», adds Dall’Igna.
