Mitsubishi, the Japanese automaker that partners with Renault and Nissan, saw its sales increase by 160% from January to March. The volume remains low, but from 8,255 cars sold last year to 21,486 at the beginning of the year. The manufacturer is currently in the process of renewing its range, relying on models created in collaboration with Renault, such as the ASX, the cousin of the Captur or the Colt, the cousin of the Clio.

While the EU plans to ban the sale of hot cars by 2035, the rate of increase in sales of electric cars has slowed in recent months. In March, 13% of registered vehicles were electric, a slight improvement compared to 12% in February, but down from 14.6% for all of 2023.

Volkswagen Group, Europe’s number 1

For larger groups, growth is much lower, as is the market (see box below). In the first quarter, the Volkswagen group (including VW, Audi, Skoda), as usual dominated the registration, but its share of the European market fell by 0.8 points to 24 .9%.

Stellantis (Peugeot, Citroën, Fiat) also lost 18.9% of market share (-0.4 points) as did the Renault group (10.3%, -0.5 points).

Toyota, on the other hand, started the year with a bang with registrations up 17.5% year-on-year, allowing it to jump to 8.1% of the market (+1.1 points). Performance that matches the needs of the hybrids that the Japanese group is a historical specialist.

The market is green in 2024, despite the drop in sales in March
