By 2027, Goodyear aims to redesign the world of tires and services, providing intellectual and artificial data based on all its new products. With a focus on shipping, automated, connected, electronic and sustainable (FACES), it changes from a tire company to a mobility service provider.

SightLine’s Goodyear concept of smart tire technology incorporates integrated solutions that, using real-time data and in-depth understanding of tire dynamics, can help identify and solve problems before they become apparent. “The idea of ​​Goodyear SightLine is to put democracy in the mind of the tires,” says Sosia Causeret Josten, a Goodyear SightLine New Partnership Specialist.

“Tire spying is nothing new. It is already in special use. But now is the time for all drivers and vehicles to be available.” Although SightLine is a major concept, the focus is on light trucks in construction, ships in field service and end-to-end delivery.

“In the first application, SightLine offers a number of options, from complete solutions with tire and dongle sensors connected to the OBD drive unit (board inspection), to full integration with existing telephone systems that collect all real-time data. “This connection gives sailors and drivers the ability to manage ships more efficiently by preventing tire-related downtime and thus reducing time costs,” says Causeret Josten. “Thanks to continuous monitoring and early response, the ship’s manager can control the use of his vehicles in a more targeted manner – a huge benefit.” As a digital product, new features are constantly being updated.

The first phase of Goodyear SightLine performance includes tire damage detection, monitoring of parked car tires and air pressure monitoring. Expected features for the future are automatic tire location, fuel consumption through better tire pressure monitoring, tire load rating, road current grip, tire detection and tire wear detection.

In the future, Goodyear SightLine will also be able to integrate into the manufacturer’s automated hardware, thus enabling key safety features to support automotive control systems. Aquaplaning notifications and tire health monitoring in general will be important future features.

Cost and operational efficiency

“In terms of customer experience, Goodyear aims to make the whole process of owning, maintaining and driving seamless and smooth,” reports Causeret Josten. “This could mean that if a warning is received that the tires will wear out in the next 500 kilometers, the program will arrange an appointment with a preferred tire dealer. That means that the day the car is in the workshop is available, the tires are available – the driver does not need to worry about anything. something is being managed for him. ” The result is higher efficiency and lower cost.

Performance-related features are another area where Goodyear SightLine technologies bring benefits, especially when it comes to safety. “No matter what tires you have, the ABS system usually responds in the same way,” explains Causeret Josten. “However, if ABS can detect that the car is driving on semi-worn summer tires, it can be touched more quickly and reduce the distance to the stop. Connected and personalized

Goodyear SightLine is currently in the pilot phase and will have a lot of data fragments. It will be available in separate packages to create more customized shipping solutions. An international research team of more than 1,000 vehicles is currently testing Goodyear SightLine with potential for broader implementation by the end of 2022.
