Chrysler is coming back and has to move with the times

The ever popular Chrysler is finally showing off a new car again. Not with a fat V8 in the nose, but with a whisper-quiet electric motor.

Although Chrysler in what big car fan brings back a lot of memories, there is a high possibility that the younger generation does not know the brand. In its country it only offers Pacifica and 300C, both outdated models. But the brand, which is part of Stellantis, is preparing for a completely new future. It does so in concrete terms at CES with a new concept car.

STLA

It is, as you might expect, full electric. It has the name Airflow, it is a crossover and should appear on the market in 2025. The prototype will be built on one of the STLA platforms, which Stellantis is currently working on. They are platforms intended for electric vehicles. The name Airflow is historically correct: an American manufacturer already created Airflow in the 1930s.

The manufacturer is yet to share much information about the drivetrain. The Airflow now has two electric motors, both with a power of 150 kW (204 hp), but more powerful units are possible in the future. It is also unclear what the battery capacity is. Chrysler talks about a range between 563 and 644 kilometers.

Cayenne

The Airflow design is conventional but not necessarily unattractive. The rear even looks like a Porsche Cayenne, in part due to the narrow LED strip that connects the larger rear light units. It’s amazing how production-ready the car looks. Chrysler hasn’t released anything about the car’s dimensions, but those looking inside the Stellantis family can see some similarities to the DS 4. A fully electric version of the 4.4-meter-long crossover will also be available in the near future.

Although Chrysler is currently adding little to the Stellantis lineup, the brand has big plans. In any case, it announced today that it will only build fully electric cars by 2028. The automaker also said it “will be used forward as Stellantis evolves to provide pure mobility and a “connected” customer experience.”

The camera itself

This means that the Airflow is also packed with new technology. The STLA SmartCockpit has multiple screens. Not only for the driver, but also for the co-driver and rear passenger. According to the automaker, each screen is a ‘personalized space’ to access the digital world. Each seat also has a built-in camera. This allows each passenger to participate individually in video Hangouts. Over-the-air updates keep everything up to date.

So we will have to wait a while for Chrysler Airflow, because the car will not finally be on the market until 2025. Then soon it will introduce new electric models, because from 2028 it will only supply EVs.
