The mobile container will now be used as a small container garden in fourteen locations in Greater Kortrijk. 9,000 residents used the old container.

The first mobile container was used when two container parks in Kortrijk closed their doors. The aim was to determine if the residents of Kortrijk would be served by a small container garden close to home. In the city center, for example, where people also live who do not have a car to drive to the remaining container parks.

“The intention was also to lower the planning threshold,” says Neat City councilor Ruth Vandenberghe (Mayor’s Team). “We found that certain items were thrown into the household waste for no reason.”

So the city decided to invest more in a mobile recycling yard. The new packaging is friendlier, more beautiful and has a ceiling. The investment is equal to 30,000 euros.

“Just under 9,000 residents took advantage of the program,” says Vandenberghe. “You can find a small garden every Monday morning at Graanmarkt. From March to December you will find a container with a green car in one of the fourteen areas provided in Kortrijk and in the smaller municipalities.

“Now we also have a separate bin for collecting plastic caps. We collect these for the benefit of the Belgian Center for Guide Dogs.”
