Frederic Vasseur explains Ferrari’s poor performance: “That hurt us” – F1journaal.be

According to Ferrari team boss Frederic Vasseur, Ferrari’s biggest problem last weekend was the performance on the hard tire area. This combined with a few good grid positions to start the race ultimately led to a poor final result.

After a bit of qualifying, both Ferrari drivers also had slightly better starts, as they were both overtaken by George Russell in the first corners. Then they had to make up the ground and in the end their position was too far back to claim a podium position.

“It was not good that we lost our position at the start but in the end we were behind Sergio Perez and Lando Norris when we stopped and we also finished behind them at the end of the race,” said Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur.

“I think if we lost anything it was more in the last stage. Carlos was unlucky with his pit stop time because he made three to four laps in front of the safety car and then the safety car.

“He was a bit scared to do the long final stretch with the hard tire compound, he drove cautiously at the start but managed his final lap well.”

According to Frederic Vasseur, the poor result on Sunday was mainly due to the poor grid positions, which was clearly the result of poor qualifying.

“If we missed anything it was because we had to start too far down the grid, of course,” said Vasseur. “On Saturday and Sunday we were a little more efficient on the hard tire than the medium tyre.”

“We controlled the medium tire area and I think we are in a good position with our performance on the medium tire. But we lost ground on the hard tire area.”
