Chevrolet will launch its Corvette ZR1 this summer

Chevrolet announced Wednesday that it will launch the ZR1 version of the eighth-generation Corvette this summer. A much-anticipated variant among American sports car fans, it should push its power limits even further.

First appearing in 1970 as a performance option package, the ZR1 badge became a full Corvette version in 1990. The coupe was equipped with a 5.7L twin-cam V8 making 375 hp. We had to wait until 2009 to see the reappearance of a version based on the sixth generation. Its supercharged 6.2L V8 produced 638 hp.

The final iteration of the Corvette ZR1 debuted in 2019, the final year of production for the seventh generation. A 6.2 L V8 also supercharged with a supercharger kicked out a horsepower of 755 hp. To this day, it remains the most powerful version of the model ever released.

Now, what should we expect from this first rear ZR1? It is impossible at this time to answer this question precisely. The visual reveals quite a bit in a short clip revealed by Chevrolet.

However, we vaguely hear an engine sound that seems louder than the Corvette Stingray’s rocker arm V8. So it could be the modified mechanics of the Z06, 5.5 L flat V8, as suggested by the American media. In addition to the possible contribution of two turbochargers, the magazine Automotive Trends goes so far as to suggest, according to one source, that an electric front-wheel drive will be used to increase the count to 900 hp. One thing is for sure, this extra would definitely fit well with the crazy spirit of this ZR1.
