Which car should you choose for your family? Have you used a Dacia Lodgy station wagon or a Renault Megane III? The question is not as simple as it may seem.

Regardless of the available budget, the secondary market always provides us with a large selection and opportunities to meet our needs and requirements. A station wagon or a budget minivan can be a great family car for around PLN 30,000. Each of them excels in different categories. The Renault Megane station wagon of the third generation or the Dacia Lodgy can compete for family favors – performance in its purest form.

Renault Mégane III – proven model

The third generation Renault Megane today is one of the cheapest – relatively modern – C-segment car center remained in the supply of Renault Europe from 2008 to 2016, ensuring full anti-corrosion protection of the body, which is an important issue in the second. – a hand car. In addition, the high popularity of the model allows you to choose from external and internal versions, which also translates into low costs of ongoing operation and post-accident repairs. The seats in the base variants only serve their purpose, while the seats in the top variants – especially the GT – impress with their body support and comfort. In the back seat, legroom is quite adequate for an adult – only headroom is limited with the optional two sunroofs. The luggage space is 525 liters, which is not very surprising, but the trunk itself is very adjustable.

In the case of Megane III, it is very difficult to find a model that has standard equipment, but you can easily find a car with dual-zone climate control, navigation, leather upholstery, many safety systems and automatic transmission. If we rely on the cheapest operation, we should look for a simple engine of 1.6 16V 100-110 HP, 1.2 TCe 115 HP, 1.4 TCe 130 HP, 2.0 Turbo 180-220 HP – it can also last. they all work easily with the gas installation that follows.

The best choice for a long way is 1.5 dCI 85-110 HP, 1.6 dCI 130 HP and 2.0 dCI 150-160 HP diesel engines – they are equipped with common rail injection, turbocharger and most of them with a particle filter. The Megane III suspension system effectively combines comfort and driving precision, and the set of McPherson struts and torsion beam used also prove to be durable.

Dacia Lodgy – roomy but simple. We don’t discuss appearance

However, not everyone expects a family car to have good handling, driving pleasure or widely understood aesthetics. For some people, the most important thing is getting the job done and nothing else. This is what Dacia Lodgy is – a model produced from 2012 to 2022 in European plants. Lodgy, like other models of the Romanian brand, is made of well-known materials. The platform was also used on the Dokker, as was the old running gear. There is no need to discuss the design of Dacia, however, it is a budget product designed only to transport us from point A to B.

The most important issue is the good anti-rust protection of the bodywork, so far users have not reported any serious problems in this regard. The interior is spacious, the front seats are flat and adequate for short distances – long journeys are possible, but require frequent breaks. Lodgy in the second row offers a lot of space, also for adults, and there is also a third row for two people – of course, the amount of space there is not very impressive. We just have to agree with the usual flaws of Dacia from those years – the plastic used is cheap and bad, their assembly is also not very careful.

The interior is quiet enough up to a speed of 100 km/h, but after that it’s just noise in the cabin. The additional list includes simple multimedia and navigation, automatic air conditioning, traction control, ABS, factory radio and cruise control – everything we need every day. It is also better to choose a Lodgy with a natural 1.6 16V petrol engine with a power of 82-84 HP – also supplied with a factory LPG installation. This unit allows you to reduce operating costs to a minimum. The budget of about PLN 30,000 also includes 1.2 TCe and 115 HP.

Most of the Lodgy range is powered by a 1.5 dCI 90-110 HP diesel engine. This is a very moderate configuration, with proper operation, consuming only 4 liters of diesel fuel per hundred kilometers. Importantly, we can easily find articles with Polish history.
