The Chinese car manufacturer Chery wants to produce cars in a single plant in Barcelona, Spain. The first cars are expected to be built this year in a joint venture with Spain’s EV Motors, which took over the former Nissan plant. The two companies signed a similar agreement on Friday.

At the factory that Nissan closed in 2021, the electric version of the Omoda 5 SUV will initially roll off the assembly line from the end of next summer. Two more models will follow next year. The plant will produce electric vehicles and combustion models. By 2029, the annual production capacity is expected to be 150,000 vehicles. In addition to Chery cars, cars from the Spanish brand Ebro, which is owned by EV Motors, will also be built at the plant in the future.
