According to a report published by the car market analysis company JATO, the Toyota RAV4 it was the best-selling passenger car, with 1.016 million units worldwide. The car slightly preceded another model from the same Japanese company, the Corollawhich instead stood at 992,000 units.
JATO’s data certainly comes as no surprise: the RAV4 was the world’s best-selling car in 2021 as well, confirming the car’s strong appeal in some key markets. As for 2022, the third place went Tesla Model Y and 747,000 units, ahead of Honda CR-V with 733,000 units and for other Toyotas, the Camrywith 673,000 units.
In any case, not all cars in JATO’s top ten were sold in major international markets: in sixth place, for example, we find a pick-up. Toyota HiluxIt is not sold in some Western markets such as the United States, while the only Nissan on the list, the Get inside. In the eighth we still find Toyota, the Corolla cross, with 530,000 units sold. Among the top ten were two American cars, the Ford F-150 and Tesla model 3.
However, it is worth noting that the JATO list is based only on official names and not about the actual reproduction of models: for example, Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 1500 are practically the same car, but since General Motors considers them to be different models, neither could appear on this list. If they were considered a hybrid instead, they would sit just ahead of Ford’s F-150.
Finally, in general, it emerges that the number of new cars sold worldwide in 2022 decreased by 2% compared to 2021.
